I Tested Every AI Ad Creative Tool on the Shopify App Store. Here's What I Found.

I scraped 17 apps, read hundreds of reviews, and ran my own product photos through the ones that matter. Most of them are not what they claim.

I'm building an AI ad creative tool for Shopify, so before I shipped anything, I wanted to know exactly what's already out there.

I scraped 17 Shopify apps that show up when you search "ad creative." I read every review on the top 5. I signed up for the ones with free tiers and ran actual product photos through them.

Here's what I found. Some of this will save you money. Some of it surprised me.

Most of the 17 apps aren't ad creative tools

The search results for "ad creative" on the Shopify App Store are noisy. Out of 17 apps I scraped, only 3-4 actually generate ad images from your product photos. The rest are:

  • Pixel/tracking tools (Omega, FeedHub, Orichi) — they help you track ads, not create them
  • Ad management platforms (AdScale at $169/mo, Easy Ads at $40/mo) — they run your campaigns, some generate creatives as a side feature
  • Social media schedulers (Minta, Predis) — they auto-post content, the ad creative part is secondary
If you're searching for a tool that takes your product photo and gives you back a finished ad you can run on Facebook — the actual field is small.

The 3 apps that actually compete

Promer AI — 57 reviews, 4.7 stars

Promer is the current leader. Won Shopify Build Awards 2026. Backed by FireGroup, a Singapore company running 4 Shopify apps with 450K+ merchants across their portfolio. They claim 150K+ merchants and 1M+ ads created.

What it does: you pick a product, it maps selling points and buyer personas, then generates 5+ ad concepts with different hooks. It can also clone ads from a library of 800K+ winning Meta and TikTok ads — you find one you like, it remakes it with your product.

Pricing is credit-based. $9/mo gets you 200 credits, which works out to roughly 40 static ads. $49/mo gets 1,500 credits (~300 static ads). Different content types burn credits at different rates, so the math isn't straightforward.

I read through their reviews carefully. The pattern: merchants praise the support team (a guy named Ricky shows up in about 40% of reviews) and the volume of output. Almost nobody specifically praises the image quality. One review says "best AI-generated static ads I've used" but most talk about speed, ease of use, and support.

The 3 one-star reviews are interesting. One merchant uninstalled after 12 minutes saying "does nothing it advertises, the so called free trail is worthless." The other two had similar onboarding frustration.

Lensia AI — 17 reviews, 5.0 stars (100% five-star)

Perfect rating. Every single review is 5 stars. That's unusual.

Lensia does ad creatives, product photos, and UGC videos. The feature that stands out is "remake an ad you love" — you upload a reference ad, and it generates something similar with your product. Their reviews mention a support person named Rokas who manually adjusts images until the merchant is happy.

One review from a lingerie seller: "it's been the only app that has been able to copy the lingerie and generate it so nicely on a model." That's specific praise about image quality — something Promer's reviews don't really touch.

Pricing is hidden. You have to install to see plans. They have the "Built for Shopify" badge, which is Shopify's highest quality certification.

Predis.ai — 169 reviews, 4.7 stars

Predis is the biggest by reviews, but it's a different animal. It's a full social media management platform — auto-posting to 8+ platforms, competitor analysis, carousels, videos, brand kits, 18+ languages.

Ad creative generation is one feature among dozens. At $19/mo you get ~325 images but no auto-posting. Auto-posting unlocks at $40/mo. The credit system, like Promer's, makes different actions cost different amounts.

Merchants love it for saving time on social media management. The reviews praise "turning hours of work into minutes" and "auto-posting across platforms." This is a social tool that also makes ads, not an ad tool.

What I noticed about image quality

Here's the thing nobody talks about in their listings: how the product ends up in the ad image.

There are basically three approaches:

Template overlay. Remove the product background, paste it onto a premade layout. Fast, cheap. Looks assembled — the product floats, lighting doesn't match, edges are sharp. Single-prompt generation. Send the product photo + a prompt to an AI model. It generates a full scene with the product "in" it. Looks natural, but the model reimagines your product. Labels get garbled. Colors shift. The serum bottle in the ad doesn't quite match the serum bottle in your store. Two-step generation. Generate the scene without the product first. Then, in a second pass, have AI place your actual product photo into the scene with matched lighting and shadows.

I tested approach A (single-prompt) on 9 products. The scenes looked great. The products looked wrong — the AI kept inventing its own version of the product. Changed colors, smoothed out labels, altered proportions.

I tested approach B (template overlay) on a GlowLab skincare bottle. Product fidelity was perfect — it's literally the real photo. But it looked pasted on. Floating on the background. No shadows. No light integration.

The two-step approach took more work to build and costs roughly 2x per image ($0.085 vs $0.04). But it's the only method where the product looks real AND the scene looks natural. I ran it on 8 different products — skincare, sneakers, keyboards, perfume, candles, laptops, backpacks, watches. 100% success rate.

I can't prove what approach Promer or Lensia use internally. But from the review patterns — Promer praised for quantity, Lensia praised for quality — I'd guess Promer is closer to template overlay and Lensia is doing something more sophisticated.

The pricing reality

What $24/month actually gets you at each tool:

  • Promer Plus (~$23/mo annual): ~140 static ads, competitor spy, Meta campaign launching, 4 UGC videos
  • Predis Core ($19/mo annual): ~325 images, no auto-posting, 10 social channels
  • AdCreative.ai Starter ($39/mo): 10 downloads. Yes, ten. At $3.90 per image.
  • Canva Pro ($15/mo): Unlimited designs, but you're doing 30-60 minutes of manual work per ad.
The per-image cost gap is real. Predis is $0.06/image. Promer is ~$0.17/image. If you're optimizing purely for volume, Predis wins by a mile.

But volume isn't the only variable. If the product in your ad doesn't look like the product in your store, more ads just means more ads that don't convert.

What I'd actually recommend

If you need volume and competitive intelligence, Promer. $9/mo to start, the competitor ad library is genuinely useful, and their support team will walk you through it.

If you need a full social media workflow (not just ads), Predis. It does more things than any other tool in this space.

If image quality and product fidelity matter for your brand — honestly, I'm biased here because this is what I'm building. But the two-step approach produces noticeably better product placement than template overlays. You can try it yourself with your own product photo and see if the difference matters to you.

The best answer for most Shopify merchants is probably two tools: one for volume and one for hero ads where your product needs to look right.
